Position Title : Staff Pharmacist

Location : Milwaukee Metropolitan Area

Reports to : Pharmacy Manager Pharmacist in Charge

Position Purpose :

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for compounding and dispensing prescription medications, providing pharmaceutical information, monitoring customers’ drug therapies to avoid interactions with other medications, and providing pharmaceutical expertise to customers on the safe use of medications.

The Staff Pharmacist assists in ensuring the pharmacy is organized in an efficient manner and helps to maintain control over delivering, stocking and labeling of medicines and other products.

Under general direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the Staff Pharmacist complies with laws and regulations governing pharmacy operations, and may also provide functional supervision of professional and paraprofessional staff as needed.

X Exempt (salaried) Non-exempt (hourly)

Position Responsibilities :

1. Fill prescriptions by interpreting written prescriptions from prescribing physicians, check for interactions and allergies, and provide prescription information to Pharmacy Technicians for filling.

Assure that prescriptions are filled accurately.

2. Counsel customers / clients in person or over the phone on how and for how long the medication(s) should be taken. Answer questions the customer / client may have regarding the medication(s).

3. Maintain records by recording and filing physicians’ orders and prescriptions.

4. Resolve issues when they arise, such as a rejected insurance claim.

5. Perform and / or assist with inventory counts and with maintaining adequate supplies of medications. When new medications arrive, sort, stock, and label medications.

Check for expired medications.

6. Assist with the hiring and training of Pharmacy Technicians, and provide oversight to Technicians in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager.

7. Comply with security and loss prevention procedures.

8. Comply with quality standards by following set process, policies and privacy regulations.

9. Any and all other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager (Pharmacist in Charge).

Required Qualifications :

1. BA / BS or Pharm.D degree from an accredited pharmacy college or university.

2. 2 or more years of experience as a pharmacist.

3. Valid license in good standing to practice pharmacy in Wisconsin and a federal DEA number for allowing the dispensing of medications.

4. Thorough understanding of pharmacology, including dosage administration and measurement, chemical compounds, and pharmaceutical brands.

5. Ability to work in a fast-paced setting with a resilient attention to detail.

6. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

7. Demonstrable dependability and customer-focused attitude.

8. Proficiency in MS Office and Pharmacy Information systems and the ability to learn software programs.

9. Physically able to stand for an extended period of time, bend, and occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
