License Inspector
Assists the City Clerk's Office with a variety of duties to support the City's regulations and licenses set by Lakewood City Council. Duties include site inspections, investigations, and enforcement. Position also will perform the administration and oversight of assigned licenses including but not limited to massage businesses and short-term rentals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Responsible for the site inspection, investigation, and enforcement of various licenses including but not limited to liquor, non-cigarette tobacco, marijuana, massage businesses, and short-term rentals to ensure compliance with City code and state law.
- Responsible for the administration and oversight of assigned licenses including but not limited to massage businesses and short-term rentals.
- Administer a license review process for assigned licenses in cooperation with all necessary City departments and state agencies.
- Conduct field inspections of licensed businesses using sound judgement to interpret and apply city code and state law to determine compliance.
- Maintain records for site inspections and administered licenses and may compile reports regarding on-site inspections / investigations to track compliance issues and ensure timely annual renewals and compliance with City code.
- Responsible for assisting and maintaining databases and website information for assigned City licenses.
- Assist businesses with questions and provide direction to discuss process and resolve violations.
- Issue notices of violations when necessary.
- Provide testimony in hearings and court, which includes communication with businesses.
- Assist the Licensing Management Specialist with preparation / processing of licensing documents by reviewing licensing applications for completeness for support and cross-training.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Respond to customer needs in a timely manner through on-site visits, telephone, and / or email.
- Support the City Clerk's Office in the conduct of municipal elections.
- Assist with special projects and other projects and responsibilities assigned by the City Clerk.

Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power PointAbility to type at least 40 wpm, preferred.Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.Some college coursework preferred.One or more years working in an office environment with a strong emphasis on customer service. Experience with onsite inspections for code enforcement and the process to resolve / address violations.Municipal government experience is preferred.Experience working with Laserfiche records storage system is preferred but not required.Certification / Licenses / Specialized Training
Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Must successfully complete and maintain required state or departmental physical standards and certifications. LIGHT WORK : Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and / or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
