Highway Maintenance Lead Specialist
This vacancy is a lead Highway Maintenance Specialist located in Littleton, CO. Total annual compensation for this position is typically between $70,872-$76,752 ($58,872-$64,752 base pay and $12,000 housing stipend). This location is also eligible for an additional $1000 month housing stipend.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is looking for someone to lead a patrol and oversee general maintenance activities for a designated area. The TM II also performs skilled, specialized heavy construction equipment operation and heavy manual labor under hazardous and adverse conditions. This position is responsible for maintaining facilities to as near original conditions as it was constructed as well as ensuring that all equipment is safe and operable.
Major duties include performing daily planning and scheduling of activities in assigned worked area, developing work plans for employees on the patrol, reviewing work progress, and providing feedback on-the-job training and mentoring. This position also ensures patrol attends all required personnel training, safety classes, and informational training. It leads, performs and assists in maintaining roadway surface by hand patching, roto-milling, machine patching, crack-sealing, blading existing unpaved shoulders, building or restoring unpaved shoulders, stock piling, and more.
The work environment requires exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes and skin. It requires the use of personal protective equipment, work with chemicals and cleaning products, and use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10 20'. It also requires the use of various hand tools and to operate heavy equipment, such as backhoe, tractor, bucket truck, forklift, skid steer, loader, aerial devices and other equipment. It requires driving CDOT vehicles and exposure to high voltage and electrical shock.
Minimum qualifications include at least three (3) years of experience in road / highway maintenance. Conditions of employment include possessing and maintaining a valid Commercial Driver's License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes, passing a pre-employment screening, and being able to work overtime including weekends and holidays. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated success with the duties listed in the job description, years of state service experience related to the duties of this position, and strong positive and can-do attitude.
