Your Role : Middle School History Teacher

As a Middle School History Teacher , you will be part of a dynamic team that empowers students to become self-guided learners. You will develop subject mastery while navigating the socio-emotional changes that middle school students experience. Your history classes will not only educate but also empower students' voices, preparing them to be informed global citizens through :

  • Engaging Instruction : Facilitate student-led discussions, guiding them through open-ended questions and peer debates.
  • Data-Driven Analysis : Collaborate weekly with your principal and instructional coach to analyze student work and adapt your teaching strategies.
  • Positive School Culture : Build meaningful relationships with students and their families, ensuring every child feels seen, heard, and supported.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Facilitate engaging discussions on historical topics, encouraging students to synthesize arguments and engage in peer debates.
  • Guide students in understanding authors' claims and the importance of sourcing through primary and secondary source analysis.
  • Teach a curriculum that highlights diverse histories, including those of Indigenous peoples, African Americans, and women.
  • Create an inclusive environment where students feel empowered to express their evidence-based opinions.
  • 2. Data Analysis

  • Meet weekly to analyze trends in student assessments and adapt your instruction accordingly.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.
  • 3. School Culture

  • Foster positive relationships with students to ensure they feel valued.
  • Collaborate with families to provide resources that support student learning.
  • Engage in professional development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Participate in school-wide meetings to cultivate community and model our core values.
  • Qualifications

  • A commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • A passion for collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Required Experience :
  • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban settings preferred.

  • Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, or related fields.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. Teacher certification is not mandatory for consideration, but candidates must meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements.

    Compensation

    The salary for this role ranges from $56,000 to $80,000 , determined by factors such as relevant teaching experience and educational qualifications. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $56,000.
