Job Duties

As authorized by the Virginia General Assembly, the Virginia Parole Board is responsible for making decisions to grant or deny parole, to detain parole violators, to revoke parole, to grant or deny geriatric conditional release, to investigate and prepare reports for the Governor regarding petitions for Executive Clemency. The Board's Executive Director is responsible for providing executive level administrative support for the Board and leadership for the Board. The position also oversees the Board's budget, serves as the Board's legislative liaison, and works with VADOC to ensure that the Board's human resource needs are met.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable working knowledge and experience with laws governing parole and operations of Virginia's correctional system. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers to include the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience directing administrative activities involving complex, confidential information. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Experience giving presentations to key government officials. Experience supervising and training staff, to establish cooperative and effective working relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders. Experience developing and managing public budgets.

Additional Considerations

Demonstrated proficiency writing and reviewing legislative proposals and supportive documents. Working knowledge of the CORIS, state procurement, and eVA.
