Description :

The Registered Nurse in Obstetrics is responsible for providing high-quality care to obstetric patients.

This includes caring for low-risk obstetric patients and stable newborns at or above 36 weeks gestation.

High-risk obstetric patients are followed by Client-Fetal Medicine during pregnancy.

The facility has a Level 1 perinatal / nursery designation.

Nurses are expected to follow AWHONN guidelines for patient ratios.

The unit consists of labor and delivery beds, triage beds, and postpartum beds.

The average number of births per year is approximately 645.

Nurses will work with certified nurse aides and surgical techs.

There are both charge nurses and house supervisors on each shift.

Obstetricians are on-call 24 / 7, with a newborn pediatric physician available.

The unit features central monitoring for fetal and newborn monitoring.

Registered Nurses will read fetal heart rate strips.

The charting system utilized is EPIC.

Shifts may include floating to other units as necessary.

Weekend and holiday shifts are required as part of the scheduling process.

Scrub color is flexible, but hospital-provided scrubs must be worn for C-sections.

Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
