Overview

A well-established organization in Hartford, CT is seeking a skilled Accounting Manager to join their finance team. This role reports directly to the VP of Finance and is responsible for overseeing core accounting operations, managing a team of five, and ensuring compliance and accuracy across financial processes. The position is full-time, onsite, with a standard 35-hour work week (Monday–Friday, 8 : 00am–4 : 00pm).

Key Responsibilities

Lead daily accounting operations including payroll, accounts payable / receivable, general ledger entries, and month / year-end close processes.

Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures aligned with organizational needs.

Ensure the effectiveness of financial reporting tools and systems.

Review and approve cost allocations, depreciation, and accrual entries.

Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

Serve as the primary contact for payroll-related vendor communications, including wage garnishments.

Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries with third-party provider data.

Stay informed on payroll-related laws and regulations.

Provide financial insights and reporting to senior leadership.

Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.

Continuously improve accounting systems and workflows for efficiency and accuracy.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.

Proven experience managing accounting teams and supervising staff.

Hands-on experience with payroll processing and compliance.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.

Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with budgeting, auditing, and cost allocation.

Familiarity with accounting software platforms.

Knowledge of federal and state funding regulations.

Experience with payroll system transitions is a plus.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.67 - $35.16 / hr.
