Overview
Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. The role develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences. You will be responsible for ensuring that products are easy to see and buy, building sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests, maintaining a clean and organized store, and growing guest loyalty and repeat business. This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service : greet guests, respond to questions / concerns quickly and courteously, assist with video gaming needs, inform guests of promotions, recommend additional items, and thank guests for shopping at GameStop.
- Support the shopping environment, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases / returns accurately using the POS system; ensure accurate changes, proper bagging, and receipts with top-notch guest service.
- Respond to guest inquiries in person or by phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.
- Promote GameStop benefits, such as new title reservations, trade-ins, and Pro Rewards programs.
- Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training store associates on policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Observe associate performance and provide timely feedback; address unsatisfactory performance as directed.
- Provide recognition and feedback to associates and document written feedback in the HR system in partnership with the Store Manager.
- Ensure onboarding, job training, and compliance training are completed prior to opening / closing shifts; knowledge of policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, financial protocol, and ethics.
- Schedule store associates, manage breaks / meals, and maintain optimal staffing for guest service; supervise in the Store Manager's absence.
- Approve payroll and manage paid time off and time edits; verify pay for time worked.
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising per guidelines; ensure fixtures and equipment are in working order.
- Fulfill Omni-Channel orders and shipments daily.
- Protect assets through inventory control and loss prevention practices; communicate concerns to the Store Manager.
- Support the team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals and complete administrative duties.
- Perform inventory counts, restock merchandise, and ensure items are represented and organized on the sales floor.
- Count and reconcile daily transactions in the POS system; complete closeout paperwork and bank deposits according to guidelines.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies, conduct inventories, and report issues to management.
- Process defectives / recalls and stock pulls promptly with proper labeling and packing lists.
- Maintain safety awareness for associates and guests; address hazards and report injuries per guidelines.
- Maintain store records / files and ensure manuals are up to date.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager's absence.
- Adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
- Follow opening and closing procedures.
Qualifications
Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.Must be at least 18 years old.High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and / or management experience preferred.Video game knowledge preferred.Key Skills and Abilities
Outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills.Genuine, individualized guest assistance during every visit.Clear verbal and written communication in English; bilingual English / Spanish preferred.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust to change.Work independently and as part of a team; meet performance expectations including attendance and safety.Operate the POS system and basic mathematical and organizational skills.Complete required paperwork accurately and follow instructions in written or verbal form.Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays; minimum 3 days / week availability.Ability to manage pressure, solve problems creatively, and maintain reliability and judgment.Able to stand and move for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs; basic physical requirements.Military base location note : understanding of military ranks / insignia may apply in applicable stores.Job descriptions are subject to change at any time based on business needs. Pay : $19.25 - $23.25 per hour
