Position Summary : The College, Career, and Prevention Specialist (CCPS) plays a crucial role in connecting college, career, and prevention services to provide comprehensive support for middle and high school students. This position is essential for delivering college, career, and prevention resources within the POWER program at Hope Leadership Academy. The CCPS offers individualized support tailored to middle and high school students by using age-appropriate resources and curricula to help them navigate college and career pathways. The CCPS trains prevention staff to assist students with the Level All Curriculum and coordinate prevention services effectively.

Essential Duties :

  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provide comprehensive college, career, and prevention services tailored specifically for middle and high school students within the POWER program.
  • Facilitate and train staff in Evidence-Based Programs (EBP's) and Non EBP's (EBP).
  • Provide prevention and college counseling services to students.
  • Implement lesson plans for both evidence-based and non-evidence-based programs.
  • Support and provide services to at-risk youth.
  • Offer personalized support to students using age-appropriate resources and curricula to help them navigate their college and career pathways.
  • Assist in training prevention staff to effectively assist students with the Level All Curriculum and coordinate prevention services to enhance overall support.
  • Ensure students maintain good academic standing by providing resources, referrals, and connection to primary prevention specialists and individual counseling services.
  • Facilitate access to children's aid internships and manage recognition activities such as youth of the month and youth of the year programs.
  • Develop and manage academic plans for students, monitor their progress, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Organize and lead activities related to college and career exploration and preparation, including extended learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with schools to recruit students and establish partnerships that enhance the effectiveness of college and career services.
  • Plan and execute college fairs and other academic and social-emotional activities that promote personal growth and development among students.
  • Attend conferences and workshops to stay updated on best practices and trends in college, career, and prevention services, and to network with other professionals in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Associate degree in education, Counseling, Psychology or related field required or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in college and career counseling, college access and success, or college admissions and knowledgeable about US higher educational system, especially New York City and New York State.
  • Key Competencies :

  • Experience working with traditionally underserved student populations including English Language Learners, students with IEPs, students involved in the child welfare system, students living in poverty, and students who are homeless or marginally housed preferred.
  • Outstanding presentation and group facilitation skills and otherwise strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills and the ability to establish harmonious relationships with team members.
  • Bilingual Spanish / English Skills a plus.

    The incumbent is expected to work a schedule, whether in-person or hybrid, as determined by the department's needs to facilitate effective collaboration with the team. The position's requirements are subject to periodic review and adjustment based on organizational needs and changes in work dynamics.
