Position Description:
We are seeking an experienced, organized, and clinically confident Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support our interventional pain management practice. This role serves as a key clinical resource for both procedural and non-procedural patients, with primary responsibility for managing a dedicated nurse phone line, coordinating medical clearances, managing medical paperwork, and providing ongoing patient education.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient pain management environment. This is a full-time position, Monday to Thursday from 7:30AM to 4:00PM and Fridays from 7:30AM to 12:00PM.
Primary Responsibilities:
Nurse Phone Line & Ongoing Patient Care (Primary Function)
- Serve as the primary clinical contact for patients via a dedicated nurse phone line.
- Respond to patient questions related to day-to-day pain management, including:
- Medication questions for chronic pain patients, including proper use, safety, and adherence.
- Medication refill requests.
- General pain concerns or symptom changes.
- Questions regarding recent clinic visits, provider recommendations, and treatment plans.
Procedure Clearance Management & Diagnostic Support
- Perform venipuncture (blood draws) as required for procedural clearance & coordinate with the lab for readings
- Perform EKGs and provide preliminary interpretation; escalate abnormal findings to the provider.
- Manage and coordinate all medical clearances required for interventional pain procedures and surgeries.
- Ensure all pertinent documentation (labs, imaging, consult notes, clearance letters, and testing results) is received, reviewed, and documented prior to surgical procedures.
Documentation & Administrative Nursing Support
- Complete and manage medical paperwork, including FMLA documentation, short- and long-term disability forms, and other clinic-related medical documentation.
Procedural & Post-Procedure Patient Support
- Address patient questions related to interventional pain procedures, including pre-procedure instructions, medication management before and after procedures, and post-procedure symptoms and recovery expectations.
- Identify concerning post-procedure symptoms and escalate appropriately.
Qualifications:
- Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Demonstrated experience with blood draws and EKG performance.
- Training and demonstrated competency in EKG acquisition and preliminary reads.
- Strong understanding of medication safety and chronic pain management principles.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills with patients, providers, and staff.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in pain management, interventional, surgical, or specialty clinic settings.
- Experience managing a nurse triage or phone line.
- Familiarity with intrathecal pain pumps and spinal cord stimulation workflows.
- Experience working within an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
