Preschool Extended Day Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY :

Position is 183 days; a typical work week is Monday - Friday with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Some evening work is required to attend scheduled parent meetings. Requires use of own vehicle to conduct business.

Responsible for instruction, supervision, and provision of appropriate learning activities of all enrolled children in assigned extended-day / year classroom (6.5 hrs / day Monday through Thursday and 4.5 hrs on Friday, 167 days / year). Delivers comprehensive educational services to all Head Start children, including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEP), behavioral support or health plans and English language learners, helping children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a developmentally appropriate manner, toward the overall goal of social competence and school readiness, as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards, the 2007 Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act and Early Learning Essentials.'s policies and procedures. Ensures services support the agency's school readiness plan. Functionally works as a team with Teaching Assistant, Center Manager and Classroom staff, working as a team to reach family and agency set goals and child school-readiness goals. This position is not eligible for telecommuting as it is front-line work in nature working face-to-face with children and families.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized institution

2. Associates degree in :

• Child Development or Early Childhood Education (ECE)
• Or a related field (as determined by the agency) with equivalent coursework (to a major relating to ECE and experience teaching preschool children) as follows :

3 qualified classes in ECE with 3 years experience teaching preschool children

3. Official or unofficial transcript which shows the award or confer date of the degree must be attached to the employment application.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Bachelor's or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized institution

OR

2. Bachelor's degree in :

3 qualified classes in ECE with 3 years experience teaching preschool children

Experience working with preschool children in an Early Childhood Education setting or preschool labwork leading to an ECE degree from a recognized institution.

Bilingual Spanish-speaki ng is desirable and may be required depending on location.

PAY RANGE BY QUALIFICATIONS :

$23.54 / hour - AA in ECE or related field

$25.01 / hour - BA in ECE or related field

Additional Information

The pay structure for classroom staff is set up similar to a school district's with annualized paychecks spread out through the year in bi-weekly pay periods, thus allowing our staff to receive paychecks even when they are off during the summer months.
