Associate Capture Manager
SMX is seeking a mission-oriented Capture Management Associate with solid understanding of the business development lifecycle supporting complex deals with DoD customers. You will be playing a vital role in creating a safer tomorrow though offering differentiated solutions to support customer challenges in the DOD market. Work location may be hybrid at our Herndon VA office or remote if strategically located near customers. Travel expectations is ~30%.
This position is established to support the qualification and capture of $50M+ government acquisitions for our Global Defense Business Unit. In addition, the candidate will perform CI analysis on selective bids, as needed. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that is focused on successful pursuit, capture, and winning proposals. Efforts include driving capture and proposal readiness from early positioning and shaping efforts, to development and implementation of win strategies, through pre-Request for Proposal activities, and continuing through written / oral proposal development, negotiations, award and transition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum 4+ years combined experience with any of the following : capture, competitive intelligence, business development, proposal development, and / or solutions development.
- Understanding of the full business development lifecycle
- Experience with FEDSIM proposal management and coordination is highly desired
- Experience with structured Capture / Proposal Methodologies, processes, and tools.
- Experience interacting with and briefing senior company, government, and industry acquisition officials, highly desired
- Proactive, organized, aggressive, and highly skilled professional
- Experience assessing customer requirements and building winning teams that include subcontractors, whether those be small business or traditional / non-traditional defense contractors.
- Contribute to decisions to Prime vs subcontract depending on alignment with SMX Strategic goals, pWin, and customer / requirements and understanding
- Experience with contributing to proposals, including early opportunity activities (MAD, Industry Day, Due Diligence Sessions) RFI, RFQ, or Capability based response processes
- Strong communication and presentation skills, while maintaining a positive attitude, strong drive for results-based outcomes
- Collaborative and proactive work across SMX teams to achieve broader company growth objectives and provide a strong foundation for customer success during execution
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence
- Comfortable working with Business Development, Financial, Proposal, Product, and COE teams during the Capture and Proposal Response process
Required Education and Experience
Ability to assess RFI / RFPs, identify viable pursuits, and align with strategic goals.Skilled in gathering intel from FPDS, SAM.gov, GovWin, and agency forecasts.Capable of profiling incumbents, analyzing PWin factors, and identifying differentiators.Coordinates with BD, technical SMEs, pricing, and proposal teams to shape pursuits.Understands BD lifecycle (Gate 14), capture phases, and proposal development workflows and associated Color Reviews.Familiar with FAR, DFARS, and agency-specific acquisition protocols.Proficient in Salesforce, GovWin, or custom pipeline tracking systems.Strong written and verbal skills for internal briefings, gate reviews, and customer-facing materials.Ability to distill complex inputs (SOWs, CDRLs, CPARS) into actionable capture strategies.Experience contributing to win themes, solutioning, or compliance matrices.Worked with BD, engineering, pricing, and proposal teams.Familiarity with capture plans, call plans, and gate review artifacts.Exposure to customer meetings, industry days, or teaming discussions.Experience identifying partners, drafting NDAs / TAAs, and supporting teaming decisions.The proposed salary for this position is : $110,000 - $160,000 USD
