Job Summary
An employee in this class performs a variety of clerical and administrative tasks in support of the driver's license bureau for the Sheriff’s Office. Work includes processing new and renewal driver’s licenses, providing general information to the public, answering questions and inquiries, accepting payments, filing, assist with application forms, processing application and change forms, and provide referrals to other offices or staff as needed. The work is performed under the supervision of a Lead or Division supervisor. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office or detention center environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service :
Respond to incoming callsGreet and assist the publicAssist or refer to relevant offices or staff membersAdministrative and Clerical :
Handling a range of administrative tasks to support the office’s operationsAssists with driver's license application and change formsManaging incoming and outgoing mail for the officeData Entry and Records Maintenance :
Maintain files of office records including driver's license and identification card applications, computer records and other documentsSupporting informational requests and conducting related researchInputting data and ensuring records are up-to-date and properly maintainedOther Duties :
Performs all work duties and activities following county and Sheriff’s Office policies, procedures, and safety practicesAll other duties as assignedQualifications
Skills and Abilities :
Proficiency in using and operating a variety of standard office equipment, including a personal computer and other relevant toolsKnowledge of record-keeping practices and proceduresEffective telephone communication and customer service techniquesProficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuationAbility to work cooperatively with coworkers and the public to provide high-quality serviceCapability to follow both oral and written instructions accuratelyAbility to learn office programs, policies, and procedures and convey relevant information to the public and staff and present a positive public imageProficiency in entering and retrieving data accurately in computerized systemsAbility to file, maintain, and organize important and complex records accuratelyTyping speed of 30 words per minute with accuracyStrong oral and written communication skillsAbility to apply logical and creative thinking to develop solutions based on written or oral instructionsUnderstanding of current office practices and proceduresSpecial Qualifications
Valid driver’s licenseMust successfully complete a background investigation including a polygraph examinationMust supply a typing test (visit www.typingtest.com)Some positions require 21 years of ageEducation and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalency; preferably supplemented by courses in office practice, computer, or general business classesSix months previous secretarial / administrative experience, preferably in a law enforcement settingEquivalent combination of experience and training may be consideredEssential Physical Abilities
