Financial Manager For The Utah Division Of Law Enforcement

The Financial Manager for the Utah Division of Law Enforcement (DLE) is an exciting and fulfilling position that plays a vital role in supporting the Chief and Deputy Chief of Law Enforcement. Working directly within the Chief's Office, this position ensures all fiscal functionsincluding budgets, purchasing, grants, audits, and reportingare managed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with State policy.

The Financial Manager serves as a trusted resource and fiscal advisor to leadership, providing insight, accountability, and expertise that directly support statewide law-enforcement operations. Success requires professionalism, integrity, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a high-trust, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Division budgets, purchases, grants, and audits.
  • Provide senior-level fiscal guidance to the Chief and Deputy Chief.
  • Collaborate with DNR fiscal offices to ensure accurate, transparent reporting.
  • Monitor expenditures, prepare fiscal forecasts, and reconcile accounts.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data to guide executive decisions.
  • Prepare correspondence, contracts, and financial documentation for leadership review.
  • Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with State finance policies.
  • Manage calendars, meetings, and administrative tasks for the Chief's Office.
  • May supervise subordinate fiscal or administrative staff.

Qualifications

  • Typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial software
  • Sound problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Associate's degree or higher in Office Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Business Law is preferred
  • Preference may also be given to candidates with knowledge or experience in hunting, fishing, trapping, or other outdoor recreation activities related to the Division's mission.

  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass periodic drug testing.
  • Must have no criminal background that would preclude BCI certification.
  • Must be or become a Notary Public within the designated timeframe.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Work is typically performed in a standard office setting that is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated.
  • The employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, and driving may be required.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
