Terminal Manager
The Terminal Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating activities of terminal employees to provide cost-effective, timely, quality service to customers. This role includes resolving customer complaints, hiring and training new personnel, enforcing compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and governmental guidelines. The role requires the ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends as necessary.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Provide necessary planning, organization, direction, coordination, and control of daily shipping, receiving, maintenance, and other operational activities at assigned locations.
- Establish measurable quality goals for the facility and track their success or failure.
- Identify operations goals and perform activities necessary to achieve stated goals and objectives to support business growth and profitability.
- Recruit, train, and manage drivers, tank wash, maintenance, dispatch, clerical, and other support personnel.
- Provide ongoing management support for all assigned personnel, including scheduling, labor hours evaluation, and monitoring operational costs.
- Develop and implement training programs for new and existing employees.
- Ensure redundancy staffing measures through cross-training.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements and standards set by upper management.
- Develop and execute short and long-term operational strategies and plans.
- Maintain accurate records and oversee the scheduling of daily workloads and objectives.
- Ensure proper maintenance and usage of equipment.
- Stay informed on labor, environmental, and safety regulations (DOT, OSHA, EEOC).
- Project a professional image through facility and equipment appearance and customer interactions.
- Promote compliance with the company's Responsible Care performance goals.
- Enforce company policies and minimize non-productive time.
- Ensure timely submission of driver paperwork (receipts, logs, trip reports, maintenance reports, etc.).
- Control terminal expenses within budgeted guidelines to enhance profitability.
- Serve as the terminal's liaison with local vendors and manage purchasing materials and supplies.
- Provide dispatch, supervision, and management duties for start-up operations.

Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Management or related field, or 4+ years of equivalent experience in the Transportation / Distribution industry.Working knowledge of truckload transportation operations.Ability to supervise and discipline personnel with proper documentation.Superior interpersonal skills and ability to interact tactfully with diverse personalities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Understanding of mechanical operations and maintenance of revenue equipment.Ability to maintain confidentialityDisclaimer
