Job description

Who We Are

At Firestorm, we’re on a mission to revolutionize how defense solutions are designed and delivered. Our goal is to empower U.S. ally nations to effectively deter aggressors—regardless of their defense budget—through innovative, cost-efficient technologies. We call this vision “democratized deterrence.” As a VC-backed company at the intersection of defense and Silicon Valley, we’re pioneering the development of mission-adaptable aerial vehicles that put power back into the hands of operators. By prioritizing operator effectiveness, we’re pioneering a new era of aerial vehicle design. We aim to upend the traditional defense procurement model by delivering world-class capabilities at a fraction of the usual cost. Join us at Firestorm as we redefine defense procurement, making cutting-edge technology accessible to all at a fraction of the cost.

About the Role

Firestorm Labs is seeking a seasoned and driven Manufacturing Operations Manager to lead the production and assembly of Firestorm’s xCell mobile manufacturing platform. This is a people-first leadership role that combines hands-on operational oversight with strategic planning to scale manufacturing in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. You will be responsible for building and managing a high-performing manufacturing team while driving operational excellence across supply chain, production workflows, inventory, quality, and integration testing.

This role will also play a critical role in new product introduction, collaborating closely with engineering, field operations and external contract manufacturers to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to full-scale production. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments, takes ownership, and brings both tactical execution and strategic vision to the manufacturing process. A strong understanding of industrial systems, process improvement methodologies, and cross-functional collaboration is essential.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, mentor, and manage a growing team of manufacturing and assembly technicians supporting the xCell product line
  • Manage escalations from the team and customers, providing timely resolution and support.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering & field operation teams, to optimize processes and ensure designs are fully compatible with the xCell manufacturing workflow
  • Develop and maintain documentation, oversee document control, and manage release workflows using collaborative tools (e.g., SharePoint, Jira, etc.)
  • Guide new product introduction from prototype through pilot and production release
  • Influence the entire production process flow, from subsystem assembly at local and global contract manufacturers to final system integration and testing
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, SAP, etc.) & and PLM systems (e.g., Arena)
  • Establish and manage supply chain processes, including procurement, sub-assembly inventory, and vendor coordination
  • Develop, track, and report on key manufacturing metrics such as throughput, cost, cycle time, material usage, and quality
  • Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives using Lean, 5S, and other continuous improvement methodologies
  • Mentor and develop team members’ skills to build a high-performing and engaged team
  • Collaborate with quality to ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO9001, AS9100, and ITAR
  • Create and update assembly instructions, testing documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and related technical materials
  • Support engineering change processes, including ECO creation and Change Control Board (CCB) review
  • Participate in MRB activities and assist with disposition of non-conforming materials

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field; may substitute equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of a degree
  • 8+ years of direct experience in manufacturing or industrial production
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing leadership role, with direct people management experience
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations & the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling operational teams, tools, and workflows
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly, industrial systems, and complex product builds
  • Hands-on experience with supply chain management, inventory control and ERP / MRP systems, to support product development and manufacturing workflows
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and product lifecycle processes including ECOs and CCB workflows
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional and distributed teams
  • Strong technical writing skills for documentation, SOPs, and manufacturing procedures
  • Proven ability to lead under pressure and prioritize in fast-paced, mission-driven environments
  • Strong leadership presence, communication skills, and ability to motivate and align teams
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly, apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment, and organize work assignments to meet established timetables
