SUMMARY

The Senior Regulatory Compliance Specialist will be responsible for providing both strategic and operational leadership, working across all levels of the business, including Product, Engineering, Advanced Analytics, Customer Operations, and Finance.

The position will be responsible for being a leader and subject matter expert working cross-functionally to keep our products up to date with regulations and laws across all our markets and geographies.

The position will identify and research changes to federal, state, and local laws and regulations that will impact our products and customers.

Success in this role means that you will proactively identify, analyze, prioritize, and communicate any regulatory changes to our customers and product managers.

As a result, both our customers and our software solutions will always be ready for the most important and impactful regulatory and legal changes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Track regulatory and legal changes across federal, state, and local regulations and laws for all of our rental sub-markets.
  • Manage and provide recommendations to leadership of potential business risks related to compliance.
  • Create an internal and external network of sensors to aid in identifying regulatory and legal changes.
  • Collaborate and coordinate resolution and / or communication of issues across multiple teams including aid in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and proposing solutions to client and platform issues.
  • Assess our products to determine compliance and exposure to risk.
  • Maintain relationships and attend product related industry events such as NAA, NAHMA, NLHA, and NCSHA.
  • Identify legal and regulatory changes that will require changes to our product or how our customers utilize our products.
  • Exercise judgment in interpreting new regulation and providing an assessment of where our products may need to change to maintain compliance, when there may be ambiguity or interpretation may be required.
  • Provide proactive communication to affected customers regarding changes in laws or regulations.
  • Partner with all internal departments (e.g., Legal, Product, Engineering, Customer Operations, and Human Resources) to ensure adherence to compliance guidelines and guidance.
  • Monitor product updates / releases to align with changes to federal, state and local laws and regulations that will impact our products and customers.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and take accountability for timely compliance and regulatory updates to our products.

REQUIRED SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES

  • Ability to build relationships internally and externally with industry constituents
  • Knowledge of key laws, regulations, and standards applicable to the multi-family real estate market, including affordable regulations
  • Research and tracking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven diagnostic skills and ability to propose solutions to stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team environment
  • Attention to detail, technical aptitude, and a desire to satisfy the client
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Previous experience working with cross-functionally teams and customers.
  • 10 -12 years of experience in the multifamily / housing field or in a related area.
