The SSHO is responsible for ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards. This role oversees on-site safety programs, implements corrective actions, and promotes a strong safety culture across all project operations. The SSHO leads inspections, incident investigations, and ensures all personnel adhere to safety procedures and training requirements.
Responsibilities :
- Enforce compliance with the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and safety policies.
- Conduct daily safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments of work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective / preventive actions to maintain safe operations.
- Lead daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and employee safety training sessions.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; document findings and corrective actions.
- Maintain safety logs, permits, inspection reports, and training records in compliance with OSHA and EM 385-1-1.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure adherence to project-specific safety requirements.
- Serve as the on-site authority for all safety-related concerns and collaborate with project management to develop mitigation plans.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field, or 5+ years of EHS experience in construction / federal projects.OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.CHST, ASP, or CSP certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).EM 385-1-1 training and experience preferred.Current First Aid / CPR certification.Strong knowledge of OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and local safety regulations.Excellent leadership, communication, and documentation skills.Experience with USACE / NAVFAC projects and bilingual (English / Spanish) proficiency preferred.
