Description :
Unit is a Level 1 Trauma center with 65 private beds, including 2 trauma bays.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 3-5, variable based on acuity or department needs.
Candidates will care for a wide variety of patients, from newborns to the elderly, with complaints ranging from minor to critically ill cases.
Nurses may encounter critically ill patients, cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks.
Critically ill patients and Level 1 / 2 trauma patients will be cared for in the trauma bay by a specialized team of nurses.
Travelers may care for trauma patients post-stabilization once transferred to a pod but will not serve as the primary nurse in the trauma bay.
Candidates must be proficient in titrating various drips, including vasopressor and cardiac drips, and managing antihypertensive drugs.
A minimum of 3 attending physicians are always present in the unit, varying based on the time of day.
There are 2 charge nurses per shift; one manages incoming patients while the other addresses departmental needs.
Charge nurses do not routinely take assignments but may assist with critical patients as needed.
A house supervisor is available 24 / 7 for additional support.
ED techs are present, with a ratio of 1 technician for every 9 patients.
Nurses work with various respiratory equipment, troubleshooting as necessary, with assistance from respiratory therapists.
Although monitor techs are available, nurses are expected to interpret rhythms and recognize life-threatening conditions.
Nurses draw labs alongside ED techs, while boarders may have labs drawn by phlebotomy staff.
Scheduling consists of rotating 12-hour shifts, with day shifts starting at 7 am, 8 am, or 9 am, mid shifts beginning at 10 am or later, and night shifts starting at 7 pm.
Positions do not rotate between day and night.
Requests for time off can be included in contracts, which will be reviewed for approval based on department needs.
Every other weekend is expected on a rotation, with specific weekend requirements for day shifts.
Holidays are also part of the rotation, negotiable based on departmental needs.
There is no call requirement for travelers, but they may occasionally be floated to assist in other units, although this is rare.
Scrubs must be tasteful, with no specific colors required.
