About the Role :
The irrigator assistant the Section Grower in the successful production of all crops in his / her area from the time they are received from planting until they are harvested by collection and delivered to the dock. Responsible for all water management, irrigation and chemical applications under the direction of the Section Grow
Minimum Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with irrigation system operation and maintenance, preferably in an agricultural or wholesale trade setting.
- Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret irrigation system schematics and manuals.
Preferred Qualifications :
Certification in irrigation technology or related field.Experience with automated irrigation control systems and software.Knowledge of water conservation practices and environmental regulations.Previous experience working in wholesale trade or agricultural production environments.Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and reporting.Responsibilities :
Ensure that all critical cultural tasks are completed on time, communicating to the Section Grower any constraints.Understand, train, and check quality of Irrigation techniques and timings.Plant nutrition- Fertilizer, EC, pH, deficiencies and toxicitiesIn-house soil testing weekly, review results with Section Grower and take corrective actions as needed.IPM Scouting for pests and diseaseDirect and Assist with Pest and disease control applications- Chemical and Biological controls. Phytotoxicity issuesPGR applicationsSanitation practices and disinfectant applicationsEnsure that all PGR and pest control applications are being met in a timely manner with proper rates and techniques.Maintaining chemical control checks to evaluate efficacy of PGR'sInspect all crops delivered by planting to ensure quantities and quality is correct. Any problems should be reported immediately.Weed-Management- Maintain clean weed free areaEnsure the safety programs being followedEnsure all equipment in your area is being used and maintained properlyMaintain a clean, organized, and safe growing area and chemical storage area.Other task and responsibilities as assigned by management.Skills :
Bilingual. English and Spanish is preferredExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong growing and technical skillsWillingness to work flexible days, Saturdays and Sundays as neededSelf-directted with high organizational skills and the ability to multi-taskAble to interact with other departmentsRespect for and ability to communicate with diverse labor forceSkilled in problem solvingFlexibility and willingness to learn
