JOB SUMMARY :

Provides engineering level support on assigned and unassigned projects over the life cycle of the project.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Review documentation for fabrication purposes by researching custom specifications, industry standards and evaluating manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Resolves differences between design and fabrication requirements by making determinations such as modifying design verses sending parts back to the vendor.
  • Works with Fab and Factory Floor in troubleshooting designs and completing projects by guiding and / or collaborating with employees.
  • Provides final engineering sign off on projects if modifications are needed (return to manufacturing).
  • Maintains Product and company reputation by complying with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Expected to work with minimal assistance.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Evaluates projects by conducting research around custom specifications and applying knowledge of drafting, mechanical, materials, software and standards.
  • Reviews projects by checking bill of materials, drafting documents, mechanical layout, and electrical layouts.
  • Contributes to maintaining drawing and program revisions and issues Engineering Change Notices when required.
  • Contributes to revisions and / or design standards by providing feedback to engineering management based on experience.
  • May be required to represent engineering functions during a Factory Witness Test.
  • Works with ASI in troubleshooting designs and completing projects by guiding and / or collaborating with Field Service Technicians.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
  • Some travel may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Specific Knowledge :

o Detailed understanding of the concepts involved in panel layout and mechanical design.

o AutoCAD, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, File Management Software, Jobscope / JDE and Microsoft Applications.

o Awareness and understanding of applicable codes, including NEC, NFPA110, UL508, UL891, UL1008 and UL1558.

o Installation and configuration of software applications and drivers.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE (Electrical) :

  • Education : Applicable knowledge equivalent to that which would be gained from a 4 year engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience : Eight or more years of professional experience in switchgear fabrication and design.

  • Communication : Factory witness tests and support for projects require the ability to clearly express thoughts in both oral and written formats.

  • Decision Making : Adept in defining issues, gathering facts, considering multiple possible solutions and selecting the best outcome based on personal judgment.
  • Time Management : Completes assigned tasks within a defined schedule by planning ahead and by being able to set and achieve personal goals and priorities.

Able to multitask while identifying and communicating scheduling conflicts in a timely manner.

  • Problem Solving : Overcomes obstacles in the face of adversity by identifying problems and analyzing patterns or trends in data.
  • Detail Oriented : Able to accurately follow precise procedures and thoroughly completes assigned tasks by using strong follow-up skills.
  • Results Driven : meets objectives on time while balancing cost and quality concerns.
