Job Summary
The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVCP) Organization seeks a candidate who will serve in the role of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Office of Research (OoR) The UCSF Office of Research, led by the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR), focuses on the academic mission of UCSF, with a particular emphasis on academic research operations and science policy. The CAO is responsible for the human resource management, budget, technology and space management of the units within the Office. This includes oversight of centralized research administrative services delivered by 582 FTE, provided to approximately 3,387 investigators across all UCSF professional schools. The CAO manages a $125M budget. The CAO reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration in the EVCP Organization and is responsible for implementing programmatic vision and strategic plan of the VCR.
Additionally, the CAO serves as a core member of the EVCP’s administrative leadership team, contributing
knowledge and expertise to guide the oversight of all academic missions, including research, education,
faculty and student affairs and other support units
On-site requirement - 4 days per week.
Placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
The salary range for this position is $275,000 - $325,000 (Annual Rate).

The Office of Research is the institutional steward of UCSF’s research mission. It provides campus-wide research administration, infrastructure, and services. This work is organized into the following units : Research Infrastructure and Operations (Research Resource Program; Laboratory Animal Resource Center; Environment, Health and Safety;, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Program; and the Human Research Protection Program,), the Office of Sponsored Research (Industry Contracts, Proposal and Grants, Contracts and Awards, and the Office of Clinical Trial Activation) and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Clinical Research Office (Clinical Trials Operations and the, Clinical and Translational Science Institute). The Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) leads the Office of Research.
