Description :

The Red Hat Linux SME provides expert-level support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Red Hat Linux systems. This role manages IT system infrastructure and processes related to Red Hat Linux environments, ensuring optimal system performance, security, and reliability. The SME works independently or as part of a team to design, configure, and maintain Red Hat Linux systems, and provides technical guidance and support to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Red Hat Linux systems.
  • Manage daily activities related to configuration and operation of Red Hat Linux environments.
  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization; perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Configure and manage Red Hat Linux operating systems, including installation, patching, and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues to ensure system integrity and reliability.
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including technical guides, operational procedures, and user manuals.
  • Support escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers.
  • Implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Provide detailed analysis and feedback to management for escalated tickets and system issues.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, network engineers, and other IT staff for seamless integration.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures, including configuration management and change control.

Qualifications :

  • 10+ years as a System Administrator or IT Engineer, focusing on Red Hat Linux systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (or 5 additional years' experience in lieu of degree).
  • Proficient in Red Hat Linux administration, UNIX / Windows integration, virtualization, scripting, automation, and enterprise IT systems. Knowledge of security best practices, patch management, and vulnerability assessments. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation abilities; able to work independently or in teams.
  • Requirements :

  • Certification Requirements :
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) preferred; DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II or higher required.

    This position requires an active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph.
