The Law Foundation of Silicon Valley (“Law Foundation”) is dedicated to advancing the rights of historically excluded individuals and families throughout Santa Clara County. Through our legal services, strategic advocacy, and educational outreach, we empower over 14,000 children and adults each year. Our Housing, Children & Youth, Health and Pro Bono Programs use legal advocacy as a catalyst for social change, creating innovative solutions to the legal challenges facing low-income communities in our region. The Opportunity

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Development Manager to join our Development Department at Law Foundation. The Development Department advances the mission and impact of the organization through private philanthropy—including foundation, corporate, donor, and special event support—along with engagement and communications.

The Development Manager focuses primarily on foundation grants management (70%) and provides streamlined communications support (30%). This role is essential to securing more than $1.5 million (and growing) annually in foundation grants and strengthening the organization’s visibility with funders, partners, and the community.

What You’ll Do

As a Development Manager, Grants & Communications, you will :

Foundation Grants

  • Draft and submit case statements, proposals, and reports that clearly articulate the Law Foundation’s work, impact, and funding needs, closely following foundation guidelines and preferences.
  • Coordinate with program staff to gather necessary information and utilize their expertise to develop grant proposals that are technically sound and feasible.
  • Work closely with colleagues, tracking impact metrics to set and measure goals, and with finance to prepare and update grant budgets.
  • Build strong relationships with grant-making organizations, stakeholders, and community partners, such as attending foundation meetings, touchpoints outside of grant requirements, and joint marketing.
  • Research and identify funding opportunities from private foundations that align with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Actively track key dates and data including grant submission deadlines, reporting dates, planned ask amounts and awards, tasks, and touchpoints.
  • Regular tracking of foundation revenue, pledges, and pipeline to forecast performance and review of all metrics to evaluate success.

Communications

  • Plan and execute a streamlined communications strategy and calendar. Manage channels, which currently include social media, e-mail, print, mail, and videos.
  • Draft content and simple design for inspirational stories of impact; testimonials from program participants, supporters and volunteers; and for awareness months / weeks (e.g. Hispanic Heritage Month).
  • Lead project management for the annual report and videography for events and communications, working closely with videography contractors.
  • Requirements : Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years in nonprofit grants management (or transferable experience).
  • Additional communications experience in a business or nonprofit setting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with grants management and donor CRM systems (e.g. Instrumentl, Bloomerang) or similar.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with ability to craft persuasive narratives.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative and able to listen actively, working toward positive outcomes across teams.
  • Goal-oriented, proactive, and adaptable problem-solver.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar, with openness to learning new tools.
  • Reliable transportation for offsite events; ability to lift up to 30lbs
  • Comfort working at a computer for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work on occasional evenings and weekends, especially during major events.
  • Awareness of how race and other identities shape our work with communities; commitment to inclusion and belonging.

  • What We Offer

    This is a full-time, exempt position, reporting to Chief Development Officer. The annual salary range for this role is $90,000 to $105,000, depending on experience.

  • Workplace Expectations

    Law Foundation is a hybrid workplace. Please note that the Development Manager will be expected to work in our San Jose office a minimum of 2 days / week.

    Employees must be California State residents. Due to logistical challenges regarding taxes, insurance, and time zones, we are not able to consider staff in other states at this time.
