Role : Orthodontic Assistant (Orthodontic / Dental Assistant)

Job Type : Non-exempt

Reports To : Doctor & Practice Manager

Description : Orthodontic Assistants support orthodontists by providing skilled chairside assistance, preparing treatment areas, sterilizing instruments, and adjusting appliances as directed. They educate patients on procedures and braces care, while creating a personalized, supportive experience that enhances each step of the orthodontic journey.

Essential Job Functions :

Assists in placing and removing orthodontic appliances.

Takes X-Rays / scans, creates molds / impressions of patients’ teeth for the fabrication of retainers and aligners

Photograph patients to document progress

Maintains accurate records of patients’ oral health histories and treatment progress

Ensures all orthodontic instruments and equipment are properly sterilized before each use

Treats patient as an honored guest and provides unforgettable experience

Assists orthodontists by preparing for procedures, laying out instruments, and keeping patients' mouths dry with suction tool

Communicates any problem areas regarding patient progress to orthodontist

Educates patients (and parents) on proper oral hygiene practices and braces aftercare

Learns and becomes proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) computer usage

Works with team and patients to coordinate scheduling

Cross trains in front office duties and fills-in as necessary

Makes adjustments to patient braces, brackets and bands as directed by orthodontist

Accompanies patient from waiting area to chair while engaging in conversation

Requirements :

Preferred Requirements :

RDA and or CA Certification Associate’s Degree in related field

CPR Certification

1-2 years recent experience in dental environment

Minimum Requirements :

High School Diploma or GED

Computer experience
