About the Role

The Senior Tax Accountant will assist the Tax Manager with the Bank’s tax compliance, tax accounting and tax planning which includes adhering to all federal, state and local tax laws and filing requirements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.

The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing or assisting with the Bank’s annual federal, state and local income tax returns as well as monthly, quarterly or annual use and property tax returns.

The Senior Tax Accountant will provide, analyze, and communicate accounting information from multiple systems, reports, and processes for both internal and external users of financial data.

This position reports to the Tax Manager.

  • Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns, as well as WA B&O tax returns.
  • Prepare quarterly income tax estimates and payments.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provision.
  • Assist with preparation for and responses to tax examinations, as well as internal and independent audits.
  • Assist with the annual preparation of personal property tax returns for the Bank.
  • Assist with other accounting and finance duties, as necessary.
  • Demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job function and applies to designated job responsibilities knowledge may be gained through coursework and on-the-job training.

Keeps up to date on regulation changes.

  • Follows all Bank policies and procedures, compliance regulations, and completes all required annual or job-specific training.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Bank's written policies and procedures regarding Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security and other regulations as applicable to this job description.
  • May be asked to coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as subject matter expert.
  • Actively learns, demonstrates, and fosters the Umpqua corporate culture in all actions and words.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or Business or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Previous senior-level corporate tax experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft products, and other business office machines.
  • Experienced in the use of income tax compliance and provision software applications.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Significant experience, knowledge and understanding of US GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and internal controls.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and execute assigned tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.

Work Style : Umpqua Bank offers a Flexible Workplace Program and this opportunity comes with the Flex Office work style which is working in office from a designated company location three days weekly with flexibility to work remotely up to two days weekly.

Our Benefits : We offer a competitive total rewards package including base wages and comprehensive benefits. The pay range for this role is $64,946.

70 to $92,781.00, and the pay rate for the selected candidate is dependent upon a variety of non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, education, and geographic location.

The role may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation and those details will be provided during the recruitment process.
