General Description and Classification Standards
Senior level individual contributor accounting position in assigned department(s). Develops, implements and / or maintains one or more accounting systems; journal entries, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue reconciliation. Reviews and approves transactions of specific type or size. Handles escalated issues from accountants or technician staff. This job is fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.
Supervision Received
Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develops, implements or maintains one or more accounting systems : journal entries, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue reconciliation. Reviews and interprets financial reporting requirements, rules and regulations. Balances books and prepares financial statements. Monitors and develops monthly reports and projects. Provides record of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions. May prepare federal, state or local reports and tax returns. May assist in setup of processes and procedures to capture, track and report financial transactions. May review, track and maintain billing information. Ensures accuracy with US GAAP and other accounting standards and regulations.

Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks in accordance with internal established processes and accounting standards. Leadership Provided Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and / or training to less experienced staff.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. Knowledge of professional accounting policies and procedures and accounting standards and applies them to wide range of accounting issues. Skill in interpreting general accounting and GAAP knowledge and applying it to day to day work assignments. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and accounting software, databases and skill in establishing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships. Ability to process numbers quickly and accurately. Ability to spot inconsistencies and troubleshoot those issues.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related area (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis). Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a related area.
Preferred Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related area (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis) with 3-5 years of accounting experience.

Work Schedule
This position follows the City's hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites / facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
