About the Role :

Norfolk Southern is seeking a proactive and analytical Fleet Planning & Data Intern to join our Equipment Distribution team for Spring 2026. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fleet strategy, data-driven decision-making, and stakeholder engagement within the transportation industry.

You'll support efforts to enhance fleet productivity, monitor performance trends, and help build a more proactive approach to managing railcar distribution across our network.

Key Responsibilities :

Fleet Planning & Monitoring

Assist in defining and categorizing fleet types in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Support the development of proactive monitoring tools to track fleet utilization and productivity.

Power BI Reporting & Exception Management

Generate and maintain reports from Power BI dashboards to identify performance exceptions.

Communicate findings and recommended actions to stakeholder groups across operations and planning.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align fleet definitions and performance metrics.

Help facilitate feedback loops between data insights and operational decision-making.

Process Improvement Support

Identify opportunities to streamline fleet tracking and reporting processes.

Contribute to automation and data integrity initiatives within the Equipment Distribution team.

Qualifications :

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, Transportation, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI; familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools is a plus.

Ability to interpret data and communicate insights clearly to diverse audiences.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Effective communication and collaboration skills.
