Altius Talent is representing a global freight forwarder seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer to join their Chicago office. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a forwarder handling both air and ocean imports, ensuring shipments are processed smoothly, efficiently, and in full compliance with U.S. Customs regulations.

As part of the customs team, you’ll be responsible for preparing and processing entries across a diverse range of commodities, liaising with clients, carriers, and government agencies to deliver excellent service and maintain compliance standards.

Base pay Base pay range

$65,000.00 / yr - $75,000.00 / yr

Responsibilities Prepare and process customs entries for both air and ocean freight shipments in line with U.S. Customs regulations.

Accurately classify goods using HTS codes and calculate applicable duties, taxes, and fees.

Communicate with customers, carriers, customs officials, and internal teams to ensure timely release of shipments.

Monitor inbound shipments, proactively resolving holds, delays, or compliance issues.

Maintain complete and compliant entry files and records.

Stay current with regulatory changes and industry best practices.

Requirements Minimum 4 years’ experience in customs entry writing within a freight forwarder or customs brokerage.

Experience handling both air & ocean import entries.

Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and PGA requirements.

Proficiency with customs / forwarding systems (CargoWise or similar preferred).

High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.

Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
