Job Summary

The Elementary Music Teacher will provide foundational music skills and appreciation to students, first through eighth grade, in a self-contained special education setting. This role involves using music to help students express themselves through engaging, age-appropriate lessons that align with the school curriculum. The music teacher will assist in preparing students for the annual Advent performance. The music teacher will cultivate a positive and creative classroom environment, evaluate student progress, and foster a love of music in children with varying skill levels.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group music classes for students with special needs, focusing on fostering emotional expression, communication, and coping skills through creative processes.
• Work closely with teachers, special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support students with special learning needs.
• Design and implement creative music performances that support the academic and social growth of students.
• Track students’ progress, keeping detailed records and providing periodic reports for meetings and reviews with parents and ILP teams.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and stay current on best practices in music and special education.
