Postal And Logistics Senior Operations Coordinator
Under general supervision, this position supports the daily operations of the university's postal and logistics services. Responsibilities include receiving, storing, distributing, and processing mail, packages, supplies, and equipment. The role also involves coordinating with departments, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring compliance with postal and logistical standards. The incumbent will take on a higher level of operational responsibility and will support departmental and service goals through efficient task execution and adherence to university policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include :
- Process incoming and outgoing mail, including registered, certified, insured, bulk mail, and packages.
- Operate postage meters and other mail processing equipment.
- Sort, distribute, and deliver campus mail; secure required signatures for registered mail and packages.
- Examine and prepare outgoing mail for appropriate appearance and postage.
- Maintain records of postage usage, departmental chargebacks, and special handling items.
- Make routine trips to the on-campus post office and other delivery locations.
- Receive, inspect, and verify shipments against delivery documents and purchase orders.
- Tag, label, etch, or mark items for identification upon receipt.
- Fill store requisitions and distribute supplies, materials, and equipment to departments.
- Maintain and monitor inventory levels; conduct periodic physical inventories.
- Organize storage areas and ensure cleanliness and accessibility.
- Prepare and maintain logs, forms, and other documentation for daily operations.
- Take the lead on day-to-day service operations in coordination with the supervisor.
- Monitor workflows and help identify process improvements.
- Provide informal guidance to team members and support consistent adherence to procedures.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal departments regarding mail and logistics inquiries.
- Operate a variety of standard equipment, including personal computers, barcode machines, postage meters, photocopiers, and warehouse material handling equipment.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include :
General knowledge of postal regulations, warehouse operations, and inventory procedures.Skill in operating mailroom and warehouse equipment.Ability to lift and transport items up to 70 lbs.; perform extensive standing, walking, and occasional climbing.Ability to communicate effectively, follow written and verbal instructions, and maintain accurate records.Competence in basic math and computer use.Ability to work cooperatively and serve as a knowledgeable resource to colleagues.Minimum training and experience include :
Education : High School Diploma or GED.Experience : Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience in postal services, shipping / receiving, or materials handling.Conditions of employment include :
Must be able to lift and carry heavy packages and perform physical tasks as needed.May be required to wear personal protective equipment.A valid Maryland Class C or Commercial Driver's License may be required.If a Commercial Driver's License is required, the employee is subject to federal and state drug / alcohol testing regulations.Additional job information includes :
