Electronics Research Scientist / Engineer

Berkeley Lab is hiring an Electronics Research Scientist / Engineer to lead R&D of advanced electronic instrumentation and data acquisition systems for particle accelerators and scientific applications. The role involves developing and upgrading digital Low-Level RF systems, FPGA-based real-time electronics, and software platforms, using innovative feedback techniques and advanced programming. This career position requires broad expertise, professional judgment, and independent decision-making.

What You Will Do :

• Works on complex problems requiring analysis and sound judgment in method selection. Collaborates with internal and external experts.
• Independently develops advanced electronic instrumentation and data acquisition systems for particle accelerators.
• Designs, programs, tests, and validates FPGA-based systems, including high-speed serial links and RF electronics.
• Builds and maintains infrastructure for programming and testing scientific equipment.
• Documents work, publishes results, and presents at conferences and workshops.
• Collaborates across institutions to define requirements and deliver engineering solutions.
• Contributes to high-impact projects such as LCLS-II, PIP-II, and AWA LLRF systems.
• Assists in proposal development, including technical concepts, budgets, and schedules.
• Follows EH&S policies and maintains required training.
