Overview
Under the general supervision of the DNR Radio Specialist, this position provides specialized technical and comprehensive support, consultation, and training services for Department staff on P25 and analog conventional radio systems owned and operated by the DNR. The primary responsibility is to support, configure, maintain, and install radio systems and encompassing technologies.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, recommending, and implementing standards for radio systems within multiple DNR divisions. It helps manage radio systems including repeaters, handheld radios, mobile radios, vehicle repeaters, base stations, and all ancillary technologies.
- Monitor / respond to help tickets, perform annual maintenance, programming, and installing radios in vehicles and offices, and conduct general radio fleet maintenance.
- Support radio needs for wildfire suppression, prescribed burning, public safety, and administrative operations.
- Coordinate with DNR Radio Program staff including specialists in inventory, frequency, towers, and system administration.
- Coordinate with DOA Facilities Management and external vendors and may involve directing vendor work in the field.
Qualifications

This position will work closely with DNR Radio Program staff and is a statewide asset position requiring frequent travel, including overnight stays, and hands-on field work.

Up to 4000 users across 3 DNR divisionsApproximately 100 DNR officesApproximately 1500 handheld radios, 20 aviation radios, and ~750 mobile / vehicle radiosApproximately 60 towers and 158 repeaters across 120 sitesLocation and deployment
Preferred locations : Green Bay, Black River Falls, Tomahawk, but flexible to find the right candidate. The position is classified as a statewide asset and may be deployed anywhere in Wisconsin to support radio needs.
