The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Surgery Step-down unit provides specialized post-operative care for patients recovering from complex heart surgeries. This role involves management of critical patient needs, including IV inotropic drugs and cardiac rhythm management, while collaborating closely with medical teams to ensure excellent patient outcomes. Nurses in this unit also focus on patient education and recovery guidance within a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

Unit Highlights

3NE is a cardiac surgery step-down unit. Nurses on 3NE specialize in the post-op care of patients who have undergone open heart surgery; Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), Aortic and Mitral Valve Repair, Thoracic Aneurysm repair and Thoracic surgery. Patients on this unit generally arrive 12-24 hours after open heart surgery and stay through discharge. Nurses on this unit gain experience in the management of IV inotropic drugs, Chest Tubes, Temporary Pacing and Cardiac Rhythm Management. Nurses work closely with a team of cardiac surgery nurse practitioners to provide excellent care for this unique and specialized patient population. Staff members enjoy the opportunity to educate and guide patients through their recovery process.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Prior Clinical Nursing Experience preferred.
  • Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers
