however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available. A supplemental pay increase of $20,000 or 50% of base pay per year, is authorized under Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and continuing resolutions.
Responsibilities Coordinates and initiates fire management activities based on firefighter and public safety, cost effectiveness, and values at risk, by using the full range of strategic and tactical options available in an approved Fire Management Plan (FMP).
Coordinates operations with cooperating agencies on multi-jurisdictional wildfires addressing risk to human safety and potential for damage to resources and improvements.
Analyzes fire management plans and makes recommendations to meet changing conditions within the limits of current or anticipated funding.
Coordinates and directs fire management staff on the implementation of fire and aviation management policies, standards, methods, and guidelines.
Provides advice and guidance on the same to the unit agency administrator. Provides leadership, allocates resources, and implements activities to accomplish DOI's multicultural organization direction and Equal Opportunity requirements, goals, policies, and objectives.
Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Selective Placement Factors : This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element.
Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified. This position is subject to the lnteragency Fire Program (IFPM) Standard and Guide selective placement factors for a Unit Fire Program Manager (UFPM).
This position requires the following qualifications - currency not required : 1) Task Force Leader (TFLD) - and - Incident Commander Type3 (ICT3) or Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2) - OR - 2) Helibase Type 1 (HEB1) - and - Incident Commander Type3 (ICT3).
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume.
To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
- For GS-11 : One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level is required. Experience must include Fire Program Management elements such as described below : Developing, reviewing and evaluating fire management plans for ecological soundness, or consistency with land management goals and / or potentially adverse impacts to cultural and natural resources;
- Conducting field inspections before and after prescribed or wildfires to determine if resource objectives were achieved and / or to evaluate the effectiveness of actions taken;
and, Analyzing the ecological role of fire and its use and / or exclusion, and smoke management. In addition to the Fire Program Management elements listed above, appropriate experience must have included EITHER prescribed fire / fuels management OR fire management operations as described below.
Prescribed fire / fuels management - examples of this type of experience may include : Professional forest or range inventory methods and procedures (e.
g., Brown's planar intercepts for dead and down fuels; live fuel loading assessments); Analysis of fuel loadings and determination of appropriate fuel treatment methods (i.
