Collection And Distribution Operator - Levels 1 To 5 - Seasonal
This is a seasonal position, which will last approximately six (6) months from the date of hire. To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
This position is represented by the Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local 367, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
Department : Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
Hours of Work : 4 / 10s, Monday to Thursday OR 6 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm, Tuesday to Friday

Example of Duties :
Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Operators III and IV are lead positions and assist in the training of other operators and may be assigned as Crew Leads with the duties that include assigning, controlling, and checking work for accuracy and conformity with procedures and regulations, as well as acting in some supervisory roles as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU's disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee's potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences :
LEVEL 1 - OPERATOR IN TRAINING
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in the operations, maintenance, construction, installation, modification and / or repair of water distribution or wastewater collection systems.
Must possess and / or obtain :
LEVEL 2 - OPERATOR I
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in the operations, maintenance, construction, installation, modification and / or repair of water distribution or wastewater collection systems, of which one (1) year must have been in Collection and Distribution.
Must possess and / or obtain :
LEVEL 3 - OPERATOR II
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in the operations, maintenance, construction, installation, modification and / or repair of water distribution or wastewater collection systems, of one (1) year of which must have been as a Collection and Distribution Operator I with the Municipality or equivalent.
Must possess and / or obtain :
LEVEL 4 - OPERATOR III
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in the operations, maintenance, construction, installation, modification and / or repair of water distribution or wastewater collection systems, of one (1) year of which must have been as a Collection and Distribution Operator II with the Municipality or equivalent.
Must possess and / or obtain :
LEVEL 5 - OPERATOR IV
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in the operations, maintenance, construction, installation, modification and / or repair of water distribution or wastewater collection systems, of one (1) year of which must have been as a Collection and Distribution Operator III with the Municipality or equivalent.

A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Commercial Driver's License, Class B / A (CDLB / A), with Tanker endorsement, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his / her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug screening prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.
