Job Summary The Library Operations department is seeking a student to join their team of professionals in The Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The position requires a student who is skilled in cartography concepts, for example, coordinate systems, data types and some data analysis. The student may have experience using ArcGIS desktop and Online. Under the supervision of the Maps and Imagery Services Research Associate, the student will scan, georeference and process aerial photography, or process satellite data, update GIS files and geo-databases, and create metadata. The candidate will also be performing technical GIS work.

Essential responsibilities and duties include :

Scans and geo-references historical aerial photography for South Florida, creates metadata, and archives the data with the purpose of distributing the data via web-application.

Geo-references and rectifies digital aerial photography with missing reference information.

Searches for digital and hard copies of historical aerial photography as is related to the project's interest.

Updates vector files according to the location of the images.

Updates the web-application using ArcGIS Online.

Job Category Federal Work Study

Who May Apply Students enrolled at FIU, who have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their Financial Aid Award package.

Student must be enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in a course of study leading to a degree or a Financial Aid eligible certificate, during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Upon credits decreasing, award being canceled, or graduating, FWS employment must end.

Work Schedule Hours will vary based on class schedule and needs of the department.

Advertised Salary $15.00 / Hour
