Job description
The Patient Care Technician position on the Hospital Internal Medicine unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse, and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.

Ideal candidate must have a high school diploma and either one year of recent experience in an acute care setting as a Nursing Assistant or a CNA certification. Shift will be 2-12/hour shifts from 7pm-7am and 2-8/hour shifts from 11pm-7am with rotating weekends and holidays. Please note, some training will occur on dayshift until you are signed off.

A 30-bed inpatient unit providing care to adult medical oncology inpatients with a diagnosis of solid tumor malignancies; primary services include genitourinary, breast, and internal medicine. Patients require nursing interventions for the management of chronic and acute disease related symptoms, pain control, treatment related side effects; chemotherapy and biotherapy administration: patient and family teaching.

Essential Job Functions:
Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs. Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs. Updates and retrieves patient information. Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Acts as part of an assigned care team.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
