We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team on a contract basis in Wyoming, Michigan. This role is integral to managing the financial operations of our non-profit organization, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic financial insights. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting and financial management, along with a commitment to excellence and integrity in their work and be able to work part-time (24 hours per week).
Responsibilities :
- Oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring the production of accurate and timely financial statements and trend analyses.
- Provide regular financial updates to the President and Board of Directors, including performance benchmarks, budget comparisons, and strategic insights.
- Develop and present the annual budget to the Finance Committee and Board, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Manage cash flow, prepare forecasts, and assist in achieving both short- and long-term financial objectives.
- Supervise billing, accounts payable, payroll, and program fund management to maintain operational efficiency.
- Maintain and enforce internal control policies to safeguard assets, ensure regulatory compliance, and support audit preparation.
- Reconcile bank statements, manage multiple revenue streams, and ensure accuracy across different software platforms.
- Oversee the management of donations, including recording transactions, maintaining donor databases, and ensuring timely acknowledgments.
- Run payroll for full- and part-time employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Monitor monthly budget performance and provide actionable recommendations to improve financial outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; additional certifications are an advantage but not mandatory.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong technical expertise in accounting, including proficiency in budgeting, cash flow management, cost accounting, and payroll.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and general proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Point of Sale systems, General Ledger software, and Donor Management platforms.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging with all levels of the organization.
- Analytical mindset with excellent decision-making abilities and a high level of integrity.
