La Follette, Johnson, a prestigious litigation defense firm in business for 60 years, specializing in general liability, medical malpractice, employment and products liability, is seeking an Associate Attorney to join our dynamic team in the Sacramento office.

Applicants should have at least 3 years' experience in litigation and be able to prepare and argue law and motion, handle court appearances, take depositions, prepare and propound discovery, complete status evaluation reports, and handle all aspects of litigation. This position requires strong analytical and research ability as well as excellent writing skills. Applicants must possess a creative legal mind, be a self-starter and be able to work independently both in-office and remotely.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in court and before government agencies.
• Prepare and draft legal documents on behalf of clients for filing with the court
• Advise clients on business and legal transactions
• Work collaboratively with partners, other associates to develop appropriate legal strategies
• Provide direction to supporting legal assistants, law clerks and paralegals
• Conduct depositions, especially involving healthcare professionals.
• Draft motions (including motions for summary judgment)
• Collaborate on mediations and prepare for trials.
• Negotiate settlements for legal disputes
• Comply with all legal standards and regulations
• Perform administrative and management functions related to the practice of law
• Perform other duties as may be assigned
