Director of Engineering / Project Manager at Cospolich Inc
Summary of Position : Responsible for utilization of research and development theories and principles to engineer, design, produce and test new products and enhancements to existing products. Work closely with manufacturing and business development to oversee and coordinate all day-to-day actions from design to commercialization of product. Provide technical expertise to designers, production, and purchasing. Identify creative solutions to support the manufacturing of products within the standards of a Cospolich product.
Responsibilities
- Perform calculations associated with thermal, electrical, and / or force loads to fulfill customer requests, internal R&D initiatives, and / or product improvement applications.
- Utilize ANSYS software to perform simulations for troubleshooting existing products and / or for preliminary testing of new development projects.
- Work with engineering / design team to complete 3D modeling and designing in SOLIDWORKS, with goals to shorten design lead time, increase library of fully modeled products, and support production with complete design packets.
- Create and / or assist in creating / updating Technical Drawings in AutoCAD, per Sales Quote.
- Develop production work instructions / manuals for Cospolich products to be used by specific departments throughout production process.
- Fabricate mockups and builds working prototypes of new products.
- Assist with design and testing of new products, including collection and analysis of data from prototype testing, creation of concepts, performance, and production criteria, and creation of parts lists and list costs involved in production.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
- May assist Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance in vendor selection.
- Establish and coordinate the activities to follow the product from design through production including timelines, product cost comparisons and material selection.
- Work with production personnel to improve current designs. Test and proof improvements to assure expected goals were accomplished and no exposures were created.
- Assist with troubleshooting and solving problems that occur on the production floor.
- Maintain project files and resource materials such as drawings, instruction manuals, test data, design criteria and specifications within company guidelines.
- Confer with workers in other departments such as sales, marketing, engineering and administration to provide technical information and implementation of operating procedures and to resolve system malfunctions.
- Assist with or oversee creation of the manufacturing Bill of Material to prepare new or redesigned products for production.
- Assist in generating detail specifications of the individual components of the new design and replacement components in end of life and in cost reductions projects.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering, or applicable field.Capable of performing thermal calculations related to refrigeration and cooling / heating applications.Proficient use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD, preferred, but not required.Experience with data collection / testing software and equipment (DASYLab).2+ years experience in ANSYS Simulation Software, required.Experience with sheet metal in a manufacturing environment is ideal, but not required.Energetic, positive work ethic.High attention to detail.Possess effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.Ability to multi-task, while meeting project deadlines.Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem and to think in such a way as to produce a new concept or idea.Lives locally, in the New Orleans area, ideally.Must be a U.S. citizen.Location : New Orleans, LA
