Associate Director Community Standards & Student Conduct

The Department of Community Standards and Student Conduct has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director Community Standards & Student Conduct to join their team. Community Standards and Student Conduct (CSSC) fosters a developmental approach to the behavioral and educational needs of UW students. Through a variety of approaches, CSSC strives to maximize individual student success while upholding community standards and advancing the University's values. The Associate Director has the primary responsibility for investigating alleged student misconduct (both on and off campus), adjudicating cases, and determining appropriate sanctions for students found responsible for violating the student conduct code. The Associate Director is responsible for the intake of cases submitted to the UWS student conduct central reporting form, referrals from Residence Life and the University of Washington Police Department, case evaluation, and assignment of student conduct cases for investigation to members of the CSSC team and College / School Conduct Officers. They are also responsible for receiving cases, assigning charges under the student conduct code (WAC 478-121), updating student records, and adhering to the unit's electronic record management policies.

The Associate Director will oversee the department's completion of student conduct cases and regularly consult and support staff within CSSC and across campus, investigating reports of alleged misconduct. The Associate Director will provide case management for students involved in the student conduct and behavioral intervention team processes. Working with the Director and the Assistant Director of Student Care, they will help to staff and support the behavioral intervention teams. They provide consultative support to faculty and staff working with students of concern or students who have allegedly violated the Student Conduct Code (WAC 478-121) or who are exhibiting concerning behaviors. They will assist in connecting students to campus resources for support.

The Associate Director is responsible for supervising the 2-3 Conduct Specialists and 2-3 Conduct Support Assistants (Graduate Student workers serving as Conduct Officers). Additionally, the Associate Director supervises the 1 Program Assistant by overseeing and supporting the administrative operations of the department by supervising the front desk staff, including one permanent classified staff member. They will create and maintain procedures for answering telephones, maintaining accurate records, and conducting general administrative functions in support of the work of the Department.

As a member of the CSSC Leadership team, the Associate Director assists the Director in developing and implementing strategic department goals and assists in overseeing the departmental goals of the CSSC team. The Associate Director acts for the Director in the Director's absence and coordinates with the Assistant Director of Student Care as needed.

The Associate Director position requires strong leadership and facilitation skills, along with experience supervising staff and directing the work of others. Additionally, this position requires knowledge of the trends in the field of student conduct, along with knowledge of student development theory and practice as applied to student conduct administration, case management, and behavioral intervention teams. This position interacts with a variety of campus partners, including faculty, staff, and students and requires a high level of computer competency as well as interpersonal skills. They must be able to manage competing tasks and prioritize work. They will create annual reports such as the Clery report. The job requires knowledge of Title IX, the Clery Act, and other federal and state impacts on the work of student conduct administration.

Minimum qualifications include :

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education / Student Development / Counseling or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience adjudicating student conduct either through Residence Life experience or a University conduct process.
  • Desired qualifications include :

  • Knowledge of student development theory and ability to translate theory to practice in a conduct setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitation of teams.
  • Responsibilities for supervising full time staff.
  • Five years of work in a university-level conduct office as a hearing officer, experience working with faculty and staff, and ability to navigate complex systems.
  • Experience coordinating Symplicity's Advocate case management system.
  • Knowledge of behavioral intervention teams, training in Clery and Title IX.
  • Compensation, benefits and position details :

    Pay Range Minimum : $81,996.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum : $90,000.00 annual

    Shift : First Shift (United States of America)
