Our Gridtern Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026 , and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun!

Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement. Applying to this opportunity confirms your interest in being considered for one or more of the departments below for Summer 2026 :

Available Roles

New England Absence Management (Northborough, MA)

Our New England Absence Management team manages essential programs that support both our employees and overall company compliance. This includes administering the drug and alcohol program, workers' compensation, short and long-term disability, and ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Additionally, they provide case management to ensure that each colleague receives support while all requirements are met across National Grid.

As a Gridtern, you will contribute to projects within the department and gain exposure to various aspects of absence management. Previous projects have included supporting the contractor drug and alcohol program, developing presentations, creating reports, and using Power BI to transform data into valuable insights. This experience will provide you with a deeper understanding of how employee support programs are managed while helping you develop valuable technical and professional skills.

Project Controls & Reporting (Northborough, MA)

Our Project Controls & Reporting team supports National Grid's Electric Capital Delivery mission by providing project managers with oversight into scheduling, finance, risk, compliance, and data reporting for all electric construction projects throughout the New England area. With $1.6 billion projected for new construction, this team's goal is to help project managers build accurate and well-defined project schedules, link them to properly scoped financial forecasts, manage project risks, maintain compliance, and report critical data in a timely manner. Success on this team is defined by helping Project Managers navigate the complexities of the Network Development Process in order for them to deliver electric capital projects on time and on budget.

As a Gridtern, you will play an active role in two key areas : data reporting and document controls. In the data reporting side, you'll work with large datasets through Snowflake and use Power BI to create reports and dashboards that turn data into clear, compelling visual stories. While in document controls, you'll help keep project files and documentation organized, updated, and archived, ensuring compliance and giving project managers accurate information at their fingertips. You'll also support the team by designing and following standardized policies to efficiently manage a high volume of information, helping projects stay on track.

Resource Availability Management (RAM) (Northborough, MA)

Our Resource Availability Management (RAM) team plays a key role in ensuring that the organization has the right people, in the right place, at the right time, to complete planned work and respond to all emergencies. This team is responsible for managing technician schedules, tracking absences, handling overtime and training entries, and coordinating with multiple teams to support smooth operations.

As a Gridtern, you will support the team by running reports for stakeholders to ensure proper staffing levels and accurate time coding for workers. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with Excel, Workforce Software, SAP, and other scheduling programs in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will also build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to drive consistency, share best practices, and support resource planning across projects. Additionally, you will adjust and maintain schedules to meet daily operational needs, respond to emergencies, and implement updates to Resource Management practices as required by regulatory changes or bargaining agreements.

Sustainability (Northborough, MA)

Our Sustainability team promotes sustainability across National Grid by integrating it into our strategic direction, influencing the external environment, and driving change throughout the business. To ensure success, this team collaborates with various Business Units and Functions, offering expertise and coaching as they develop credible sustainability plans to meet our targets. The Responsible Business team, which operates within Sustainability, maintains a broad focus on National Grid's three pillars of Responsible Business - Environment, Customers & Communities, and Our People - while supporting internal and external communications to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and engaged with our sustainability initiatives in a coordinated and effective manner.

As a Gridtern, you will assist in developing a stakeholder communication plan that considers both internal and external audiences and identifies the most effective ways to reach them with relevant sustainability information. You will source sustainability case studies from across the business and work with stakeholders to prepare them for publication on the external Responsible Business website. Additionally, you will pull stakeholder feedback on the Responsible Business Charter, website, and year-end reporting process into actionable insights and make suggestions for improvement. Lastly, you will have the opportunity to review and redesign our internal employee training on climate change.

What You'll Need

  • Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026 , and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer
