The Role

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.

Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and / or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and / or machines.

Specific Areas of Responsibility and necessary skills include :

• Serve as the Nuclear Construction Engineering (N.C.E.) Scoping Cell Lead for the E80's Nuclear Propulsion Division (NPD).
• Multi-discipline Interface : collaborate with all Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural disciplines in the NNS Scoping Cell to generate and issue Request For Quote (RFQ) Change Orders.
• Project Management skills. Experience with managing multiple ongoing projects.
• Integral team player for the NNS Scoping Cell and have ability to collaborate with all levels of management.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience or

Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience or

Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

A self starter and work at a high technical level of rigor and possess the ability to quickly understand technical issues among all disciplines.

Shipyard Engineering Department Collaboration :

• Familiarity of NNS Supply Chain Management
• Familiarity of NNS Contracts and Pricing processes
• Familiarity with all NNS Engineering departments (both Nuclear and Non-Nuclear)

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

• General broad knowledge of A1B Propulsion Plant Systems and Components across all engineering disciplines
• Ability to lead telecoms and navigate technical discussions
• Abilities in following Procedural Guidelines
• Basic EXCEL Spreadsheet and Accounting functions
• Intermediate knowledge working with ADOBE Professional Suite
• Working knowledge of Microsoft ACCESS Databases
