About the Role
A leading refrigerated food manufacturer (perishables / dairy sector) is seeking an experienced Area Sales Manager to lead sales operations across key New York territories .
This role is heavily field-focused-immersed in retail stores, guiding sales teams, supporting merchandisers, and strengthening customer relationships.
The ideal candidate is a bilingual (English / Spanish) leader with strong experience managing teams in the perishable / CPG food industry.
Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute region-specific sales strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Identify market opportunities through competitor analysis, customer insights, and territory performance.
Drive initiatives that increase market penetration and store-level impact.
2. Team Management
Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of 6 Sales Representatives , along with Merchandisers and Sales Associates.
Conduct coaching sessions, ride-alongs, and ongoing training to enhance sales effectiveness.
Set clear performance expectations and maintain accountability across the team.
3. Sales Execution
Oversee daily sales activities, merchandising execution, product placement, and in-store visibility.
Manage pipelines, forecasting, and CRM updates to ensure accurate reporting and planning.
Ensure excellence in store-level execution for all promotions, new product launches, and resets.
4. Customer & Retail Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with retail partners, distributors, and key decision-makers.
Understand store-level challenges and collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues.
Act as the territory's primary point of contact for retail operations and merchandising needs.
5. Reporting & Analytics
Track and analyze key KPIs, sales trends, distribution gaps, and promotional performance.
Prepare weekly / monthly territory reports for senior leadership.
Use data insights to enhance team performance and territory strategy.
Required Qualifications
Experience managing teams of 8+ in the refrigerated perishables or dairy industry.
Fluency in both English and Spanish (mandatory).
Strong background in CPG field sales, route-based sales, merchandising, or retail operations.
Hands-on leadership style with a willingness to spend 90% of time in the field .
Strong analytical skills with experience in KPIs, forecasting, and CRM tools.
Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building abilities.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary : $70,000 $85,000 (based on experience)
Annual Bonus : Up to 10% (based on EBITDA + KPIs)
