Heavy Equipment Mechanic I

Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will report to the Lead Mechanic. This Mechanic must have the ability to perform general maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting on various types of trucks and equipment, along with a desire to learn about diesel engines, gas-powered engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and pumps.

In addition, flexibility, prioritization, and organizational skills are required as there are a variety of requests made regularly to the Mechanic Team.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Review all repair request forms, make suggestions, obtain pricing, and discuss options with the Lead Mechanic if necessary, for completing the repair
  • Complete repairs and maintenance as directed
  • Complete paperwork for all repairs and maintenance and submit to the Lead Mechanic
  • Perform 90 day and annual inspections on all drill rigs, trucks, trailers and other equipment. Complete the inspections in accordance with DOT regulations
  • Inspect and diagnose physical conditions of equipment on a regular basis to ensure safety standards are met
  • Requisition of materials, parts, and supplies
  • Responsible for keeping rig and equipment in good working order and condition
  • Use diagnostic equipment
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Performs all duties in compliance with standard safety practices, policies, procedures and government regulations
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds throughout the day
  • Work overtime and various shifts
  • Knowledge of power / hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Read and understand manufacture repair manuals
  • Computer competency

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proof of mechanical training, classes, and certification

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to indoor and outdoor weather conditions and other elements prevalent at the time.

Field work often includes uneven and slippery outdoor surfaces.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, use hands to finger, handle objects, tools, or controls;

reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bending or crouching; talk or hear.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Physically bending, twisting, kneeling for the majority of the work shift.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to maneuver in small areas
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds throughout the day
  • Required to wear protective and safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats

Field work often includes uneven and slippery outdoor surfaces.

The noise level in the work environment is typical of machinery noise which can be distracting and loud at times. May be exposed to dust, and fluctuation in outside temperatures
