Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • University or non-profit experience
  • At least 5 years of professional experience related to sales, marketing, development, business administration, higher education, project management, or relationship management
  • Major gift fundraising in Higher Education ($50k and higher)
  • Certificate training in higher education fundraising such as Plus Delta's The Discipline of Frontline Fundraising
  • Experience managing large special events, preferably with a development or fundraising purpose
  • Ability to establish the trust of colleagues and build strong relationships with key faculty / staff
  • Position Summary

    This position is based in the Office of Parent Giving within the Development & Alumni Relations Division. Its purpose is to oversee all unit responsibilities of the team including fundraising oversight and success, management of major gift fundraisers, management of special events, communications, and stewardship for the office. This position focuses on parent donors and helps institute a strong culture of parent giving by working with major gift officers on the Parent Giving team to develop effective and robust donor cultivation strategies. This position also works closely with campus partners including the Regional Development team, Principal Gifts team and development teams from schools, colleges, and units.

    The ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people and an established record of accomplishment in managing others and building meaningful relationships are critical components of the position. The incumbent must be passionate about leading, coaching, and inspiring fundraisers to build strong, engaged communities of donors. They must also be adept at partnering with other development colleagues and managing programmatic aspects of the job.

    Staff, Partnership, and Program Management

  • Develop performance initiatives and expectations for each employee reporting to this position to ensure everyone is meeting all his / her fundraising goals, objectives, and project timelines; Mentor and evaluate his / her performance annually.
  • Direct report management responsibilities for two parent major gift fundraisers to ensure staff members execute effective donor engagement strategies that result in successful solicitation of donors.
  • Motivate, support and mentor the Parent Giving team, including administrative support staff; set clear expectations and establish metrics for success.
  • Provide strategy and guidance to DAR fundraisers who are working with parent major gift prospects, including the Principal Gifts and Regional Development teams and the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Oversee daily departmental administration and budget and determine fiscal and personnel requirements of office and prepare budgetary recommendations.
  • Direct and oversee all activities of the Parents Leadership Council ( PLC ) including new parent and student welcome events, as well as fall and spring Parents Leadership Council weekends.
  • Oversee communications, special events and programs, and stewardship for the unit.
  • Collaborate with academic units and development officers across campus to partner on parent major gifts to benefit the university and its many areas.
  • Collaborate with the Parent Giving team during monthly strategy sessions to collectively develop and refine engagement plans for key philanthropic parent prospects. Share relevant data, provide input on gift discussions, and help coordinate next steps to ensure a unified approach to relationship management and drive successful solicitations.

    Duties / Responsibilities

    Donor Engagement and Fundraising

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of prospects to raise major gifts to benefit the University of Georgia. Face-to-face visits with major gift prospects and qualified donors are to be identified and accomplished each calendar month. These visits will be qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship visits throughout the state of Georgia and assigned out-of-state markets. This will include overnight trips on an as-needed basis.
  • Complete all necessary preparation, contacts, and follow-up for each prospect and donor visit.
  • Document visits with a written contact report in GAIL , the alumni / donor database, within a week of the visit.
  • Prepare timely, accurate, relevant, clear, concise, and compelling proposals to secure leadership annual gifts ($1,500+), major gifts ($50k+), and principal gifts ($1m+) in support of UGA's strategic plan and priorities.
