Job Description :

Erie 1 BOCES has an immediate opening for a Data Support Specialist to assist school districts with state-mandated student data reporting. Responsibilities include helping school personnel understand state reporting requirements; correcting errors in data collection; managing critical data flows and timelines; developing training materials and documentation; and keeping the schools on track with deadlines.

Analyzes current systems and procedures for the purpose of proposing and developing modifications and improvements to existing systems. Establishes and maintains standards to most efficiently utilize the processing of software and data on various technology platforms and systems.

Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of computer applications.

Installs, customizes, and maintains various software applications.

Acts as the liaison between users in the district and the organization (Management and Student Services, as well as other technology departments).

Evaluates, describes, and organizes data requirements and file structures.

Analyzes, defines and designs requirement statements outlining the steps required to effect their solutions.

Provides application and operating system training, support and instruction to school district personnel.

Develops procedure manuals for technical and non-technical users to aid in processing application software programs.

Organizes and prepares system documentation and procedures.

Studies and evaluates substantive program requirements and operational methods and procedures for the purpose of determining the feasibility of adapting them to new technology methods, as well as, the implementation of the same.

Performs hardware and software evaluations and provides management with written and oral recommendations.

Provides support in the area of project coordination, management, and tracking.

Configure and support peripheral software and / or hardware for supported applications.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications :

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of data processing experience in vendor supplied operating systems software programming and / or maintenance; OR;

B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) or four (4) year college or university with an Associate’s degree in Data Processing, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field and four (3) years of data processing experience in vendor supplied operating systems software programming and / or maintenance; OR;

C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (5) years of data processing experience, at least three (3) years of which involved computer programming with at least two (2) years in vendor supplied operating systems software programming and / or maintenance; OR;

D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C).

Additional Qualifications :

Knowledge of New York State Education Department regulations is a plus

The successful candidate will be analytical with good communication skills and be comfortable training in a one-on-one or small group situation

Travel to school districts in Western NY is required
