FEMA - Cultural Resources Specialist

Overview

The FEMA Cultural Resources Specialist provides technical expertise to ensure compliance with Federal historic preservation laws and regulations. Conduct reviews in accordance with 36 CFR Part 800—Protection of Historic Properties, Section 106 Review Process. Conducts record searches and surveys to help identify cultural resources and areas of concern. Reviews project descriptions, drawings, maps, and photographs to assess the potential of the project to impact cultural resources. Produces cultural resource documents presenting research and analysis results. Communicates and coordinates with staff within FEMA as well as local, state, tribal and / or territorial governments. May coordinate and complete basic to moderately complex site inspections to validate and record damage to assist in the FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery process. Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a FEMA Badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position. Performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise to ensure compliance with Federal historic preservation laws and regulations.
  • Conducts reviews in accordance with 36 CFR Part 800—Protection of Historic Properties, Section 106 Review Process.
  • Conducts record searches and surveys to identify cultural resources and areas of concern; reviews project descriptions, drawings, maps, and photographs to assess potential impacts on cultural resources.
  • Produces cultural resource documents presenting research and analysis results.
  • Provides status updates and coordinates with FEMA staff and local, state, tribal and / or territorial governments.
  • Performs other tasks to ensure projects comply with Federal historic preservation laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate and complete site inspections to validate and record damage to assist in the Public Assistance grant delivery process (basic to moderately complex).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a FEMA Badge with background investigation for a Public Trust position.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in history, archaeology, anthropology, architectural history, art history, historic preservation or related field is required.
  • 5 years of in-field experience or 2 years of in-field expertise with a professional registration.
  • Domestic travel is required.
