Director, Investor Relations for Impact-First Investments

Boston, MA preferred, San Francisco, CA; New York, NY

About Us

Social Finance is a national nonprofit and a registered investment advisor (SF Advisors, LLC). We work with the public, private, and social sectors to create partnerships and investments that measurably improve lives. Since our founding in 2011, we have mobilized over $400 million in new investments designed to help people and communities realize improved outcomes in workforce and economic mobility, health, and housing.

We are driven by the belief that social and economic systems should enable all people to thrive, and the conviction that we can create the most meaningful and measurable change in our communities when governments and markets work together. Our organization is built upon five core values : people, performance, integrity, collaboration, and inclusion.

Our work spans four areas : Impact-first Investing, Workforce and Education Investments, Advisory & Public Sector Practice, and the Social Finance Institute. Our Impact-first Investment team designs, launches, and manages investments that provide solutions for effectively deploying impact capital across a range of social outcomes. Our Workforce and Education Investments team designs, launches and manages financial solutions focused on addressing workforce challenges, including skills acquisition and training access. Our Advisory team partners with government and philanthropy leaders to implement data-driven programs for advancing social impact. And through the Social Finance Institute, we aim to build the field and change systems through actionable research, communities of practice, and educational outreach.

Role and Responsibilities

Social Finance seeks a strategic and entrepreneurial Director to lead capital raising and investor relations for its impact-first investment initiatives.

Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and working closely with the Vice President of Impact-First Investments and the Impact-First Investing team, the Director will serve as the central relationship manager for existing investors and advance an ambitious $250M fundraising strategy for the Social Finance Impact First Fund.

A top priority will be driving capital commitments to the Impact First Fund, Social Finance’s flagship impact investing vehicle. The Director will play a critical role in positioning the Fund at the intersection of philanthropy and impact investments, increasing awareness and understanding of the field and fund, identifying and cultivating prospective investors, and converting interest into meaningful commitments. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of fundraising from ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs), family offices, foundations, and other mission-aligned institutions, financial fluency, and a shared passion for building the field of impact-first investing.

As a senior member of the Partnerships and Philanthropy team, the Director will collaborate cross-functionally with teams across the firm—including Impact First Investing, Legal, Finance, and Communications—to ensure excellence in investor experience, reporting, and fund positioning. This is a high-visibility role for a seasoned fundraiser with a proactive mindset, strong execution skills, and demonstrated success identifying and closing six and seven-figure investments in a fast-paced, outcomes-oriented environment.

Capital Raising and Investor Engagement

Lead fundraising efforts and relationship management for Social Finance’s Impact First Fund, with clear accountability for annual fundraising goals

Cultivate a robust pipeline of 1,000+ prospective investors, including UHNWIs, family offices, foundations, DAFs, and other mission-aligned capital providers

Partner with the Chief Philanthropy Officer to design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to raise $250M in philanthropic and investment capital

Maintain an active calendar of one-on-one meetings and tailored investor events in key U.S. markets; regular travel is expected (approximately 10-15%)

Drive identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospective funders, with a focus on securing six and seven-figure commitments

Refine and develop compelling investor materials that clearly communicate the fund’s investment strategy, impact thesis, and value proposition

Represent Social Finance in high-level meetings, events, and convenings as a credible, mission-aligned spokesperson for the Fund

Ensure a high-quality investor experience through consistent, timely, and personalized engagement across all touchpoints

Investor Relations & Reporting

Manage the full investor lifecycle—from early cultivation and onboarding through stewardship and long-term relationship management

Facilitate efficient investment processes in coordination with financial intermediaries, fund administrators, and internal teams

Collaborate with Impact First Investing, Legal and Finance on fund documentation, onboarding, compliance, and reporting obligations

Develop best-in-class investor communications, including data room, quarterly reports, impact updates, and tailored correspondence

Design and lead planning and execution of an annual investor meeting

Respond to investor inquiries with accurate, timely, and insightful data, leveraging internal systems and analytics

Oversee CRM usage (Affinity or equivalent), ensuring data accuracy, usability, and accessibility across teams

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a high level of professional excellence, initiative, both strategic and detail orientation, and passion for our mission.

8–10+ years of experience in investor relations, fundraising, capital advisory, or client management

Demonstrated success identifying, cultivating and managing relationships with sophisticated investors, such as UHNWIs, family offices, DAF platforms, and foundations

Proven track record of soliciting and closing seven-figure commitments

Proven experience in people management, including mentoring and fostering the professional growth of direct reports through regular feedback, coaching, and development opportunities

Strong financial and investment fluency, with the ability to synthesize and communicate complex concepts and fund structures clearly and compellingly

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for developing investor-facing materials and facilitating high-level engagements

Experience managing and leveraging CRM systems to inform strategy and deepen and expand relationships

Highly collaborative and proactive; comfortable operating with independence, driving initiatives forward, and navigating ambiguity

Entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to applying business models to social problems through innovative capital deployment

At Social Finance, we strive to deliver a benefits program that will enhance our overall value proposition to employees. Our current benefit offerings include :
